Does anyone recommend a place to rechrome the bumpers on my 65 Tbird? Or know anyone with bumpers already rechromed for sale?

Has anyone had good or bad experience with Bumper Boyz?

Dutch,

Endorsing vendors or criticizing them on Discussion Forums has gotten to be a pretty sticky practice. There are many law suits pending right now because a vendor thought he was being unfairly criticized.

You gave no indication of where you live or what quality level you desire. These are significant factors in making a choice. There are many good shops out there. But, don't let shipping costs run away if you can help it.
Keep shopping.

What good is a forum if you can't exchange thoughts or opinions on the quality of service you've received or your satisfaction with goods purchased???? There's nothing illegal about sharing experiences IF they're truthful. False, misleading statements can get you in trouble and there's no room in any forum for those.

Good rechroming is an art form as far as I'm concerned and no ad in the phone book or on the net is going to tell you how much pride a shop takes in their work. Word of mouth is the single best way to find out who does good work. Who doesn't pick the brains of fellow Tbirders at car shows? What's the difference?

Dutch,

I whole heartedly agree with you in principle. But no one has ever heard me defend our judicial system. One of the most active and best managed automotive discussion forums is: www.chevytalk.org
Take a look at their new policy statement under "Vendor Stories". There has been more than one Ford product forum that has shut down this year partially due to "freedom of speech" issues.

Getting back to chrome plating. There are good show quality chrome shops in Pennsylvania, Alabama, Illinois, California, and Washington that I know. We don't know where you are or what calibre of plating you need. In any event; shipping could be an important factor.

In my original response to you, the last two words said it all: "keep shopping".

Thanks for the added info, Tom. Geesh, if my girlfriend wasn't a lawyer I'd say something like "we have too many lawyers in this country". ;-) I believe you when you say certain posts or sites have been shutdown because of "vendor stories", but unless these stories are proven false, there isn't anything a venodor, or their lawyer, can do about it. Site managers obviously just don't have the stomach to stand up to the bullying tactics of the lawyers.

In any event, thanks for pointing out your last sentence in the original post ("keep shopping"). I had, in fact, missed that.
Guess I'll take the slow route and have my current bumbers repaired and rechromed by the place I've heard good things about (Tri-City Plating, TN). Most everything else on the car is original, guess the bumpers should be too.

I'm just outside Toledo, OH, by the way.

Happy motoring...

There Ya Go Dutch,

I have recently heard good reports about your most recent shop choice. If they do as well as you expect, give us some feed back. I'm assuming it will be good.
