Hi,

The previous owner to my 65 convertible has installed an extra plastic expansion tank and connected it with a tube to the lid of the original black tank sitting on top of the radiator. Does anybody know if this fix is something that will do any good? The extra tank look ugly and it look missplased in the engine room.

I have one also, I assumed that it was there to keep coolant off the garage floor normally any overflow would just drip onto the ground. But you are right it does not fit in very well and is extremely ugly.

What exactly are you referring to when you write :"original black tank sitting on top of the radiator". The original expansion tank was mounted on the intake manifold.. I think you have found a reserviour for a closed coolant system - which should use a vacuum/pressure cap.

I just explained it porly. The black tank is located between the radiator and the manifold. On the lid there is a draining tap which i guess just should have a tube draining water straight down under tha car, if the water gets to hot and expand. In my car there is a tube on the draining tap going to another plastic tank, which I guess wasn't there to begin with and I'm thinking of removing it. If there isn't a good reason why I should keep it.
