Just put tags on the 64 Convertible yesturday. Drove it home from the office, took the wife out on date and all is well. I start her up this morning and put in drive and a hissing noise begins to emminate from what sounds like the steering column. I checked all fluids - topped off the trans., pwr steering, and brake fluid, but noise continues. It sounds like an air leak and seems to lessen when I accelerate. The sound stops when the car is in park. Also parking brake did not disengauge when I put the car in gear. Anyone have any idea what may be causing the above?

Same thing happened to me a while back. The vacuum hose had popped off of the switch on the steering column behind the dash.

Vacuum Leak

I found a vacuum hose disconnected just below the dash - reconnected it but the hissing continues - Will I have to remove the dash to get to emergency brake system vacuum connection?

trans. noise

You only have to remove the kick panel. There is vaccum to the vacuum release motor when you shift to drive. Could be the line to the motor is disconnected or the the motor is bad. If you have to replace the motor you have to remove the air duct to get to the parking brake assembly and remove it to replace the motor. Its a tight spot, I had to do it on my 66.
