Rich,
I don't have an answer for your ignition lock problem, but I can tell you that I have no problems starting my 55 after a week's time, or even a month. I pump the accelerator 4 or 5 times and turn the key. I may have to do this twice, but she fires right up onto idle. I suspect that your float bowl is leaking the fuel out somehow, through a crack or a gasket? It shouldn't evaporate out that quickly, I wouldn't think, but I'm not an expert. I would be concerned about having to use starter fluid to get it going. That is really hard on an engine. If it doesn't get gas when you pump the pedal 4 or 5 times, you might have a bad power valve (I think that's what its called). Its not uncommon (so I've been told ) that a backfire through the carb has been known to blow out a power valve. Again, I could be wrong. That was along time ago. If anyone else can add some clarity....please jump in! Good luck, and keep us posted as to how you make out.
