There is a small gear on the end of the tach cable. It is possible that your gear is still in the distributor and it just seperated from the cable. I believe this would be called the tach drive gear. I will look at mine again tonight to see how the cable connects to the gear.

Chevy, Thanks for the fast reply. I think your right, the part I am missing is the "drive gear", mine isn't in the distributor, it's just missing.
Can you tell by looking at yours which type you have?
My reference book lists 2 different Gears but doesn't show a picture or a diagram.

Did you find that yours is connected with a set screw? just my guess that's that how they are done. Thanks again David
