Tom,
Everything I've ever heard about repairing heater motors can be summarized in one word: tricky. Perhaps a person who is experienced in small motor repair wouldn't be challenged, but I've always been intimidated by them. Afraid of screwing it up and ending up with a pile of junk parts.
Received a new catalog yesterday from Thunderbird Headquarters in Concord, Ca.. They show rebuilt originals for $125.00 exchange, and brand new replacements for $75.00. Don't destroy the original !
If those kind of prices give you heartburn, stay away from the newer cars. I just laid out $198.00 for a FOMOCO remanufactured Mass Air Flow Sensor plus a couple of O2 sensors for a '97 4.6L Ford. Cars aint cheap.
