The plug that is specified in the '57 shop manual is a Champion 870. With the way spark plug identification numbers have changed over the years, I don't know how we could ever come up with an identical configuration these days. The plug you have chosen is probably a reasonable starting point. After you start using the car, you can adjust to a hotter or colder plug to suit your type of driving. It doesn't seem likely you'd go to a colder plug when you consider how most 50 year old cars are used.
