sticking lifters

The sticking noise I bet are your lifters that have gunk built up over five years of sitting. I had the same thing happen to me and no, they will not go away. The push rods will only get bent more and then you loose alot of power due to not running on all 8.

Take a two by four and with the motor running use it as a listening device. Hold it against the rocker covers moving up and down and you will hear real easily where the bad lifter/ push rod is. IF the noise is coming from the passenger side then you have it easy since there is not alot to take off to get the rocker covers off. The drivers side has the powersteering inthe way I believe although it can still be taken off.

Once you have the cover off, spray some carb cleaner into all of the lifters after you take the pushpins out. Just shine a light down and you can almost tell if they are dirty or not. Then replace the pushrods with new ones ($1.50 a piece or so) and you are in business. Start er up, let her smoke a bit and burn it off and hope all is solved.

Of course the other problem might be stuck valves in which case take it to a mechanic and they can possible unstick them with taking the whole thing apart. Air into the suspected stuck valve in the spark plug and loosen the rocker arms etc... But let them do that......mariner blue
