Best advice I can give you is to visit the forums at www.tccoa.com , Use the search feature at that section, and see what has already been posted on these topics.

If the check engine light comes on, then there has to be a code. Try going to another shop to have it re-scanned.
To re-set the Check Engine light, pull fuse #15 in the fuse panel in the engine compartment. Then, try to start the car (it won't), and then turn the key back off. Put fuse back in. Light will be out.

You can also disconnect the negative terminal of the battery, for 10 minutes.
