pulling the driveline

I'm pulling the motor/tranny on my 1990 T-bird 3.8, and I'm wondering how to get the driveline out. Do I need to drop the gas tank?

I had to replace my differential gasket and noticed that the driveshaft runs above the gas tank. I don't understand the logic in the design, but you will have to drop the gas tank.
