65 Wiper Switch "Slips"

The wiper switch on my 65 tends to slip forward, turning on the wipers. The prior owners solution was to stick a small piece of cardboard between the wiper and washer switchs to hold the wiper switch in the off position. While this does the trick most of the time I'd like something a bit more permanent.

When I dropped the clock-cluster to examine things all of the pieces seem to be in place, but it looks like the "teeth" on the switch housing might be worn.

1. is this a common problem
2. is there a quick solution
3. are the switch mechanisms available new anywhere or do I need to look for a used part (I didn't see the part in the Thunderbird HQ catalog)

When I bought my 65 Bird I had the same problem. I put a small cable tie, the ones with the square holes in it rather than the smooth ones, between the teeth & the flat part it rides on. This made the switch nice & tight & it feels like it has steps when you move it. Has been in for 2 years. Don't use wipers a whole lot but it still works.

My 65 does the same thing. As I'm driving along the wipers suddenly come on and slowly cycle one time. I thought maybe the damn car was haunted or something! It's kind of funny and does get a chuckle out of my passengers but after the cruising season I'm going to fix it.

I just ordered the part. The have a new part to fix the washer switch and a used part to replace the worn teeth on the wiper switch.
