It sounds like a heat soak issue. Modern ethenol gas blends boil at a lower temperature than pure gas. Typically, that means that the fuel in the carb is vaporized after sitting on a hot engine for a while.

I had this too and was able to better the situation with a thin spacer under the car (I got a wood spacer made be Edelbrock, but phenolic is also available). I don't have a stock setup, so had clearance under the hood for the extra height.

Does your car have the water jacket spacer under the carb? If so, you may want to check to see that you're getting a good flow through there--it's designed to cool the carb down.
