According to some other information I found it looks like they changed the system during the '66 model year. Early on they had the electrical connection at the retractor to "remind" you to fasten your belt until it detected the belt was latched (well, pulled out anyway...) Apparently customers weren't real happy with the big brother approach and a running change was implemented that deleted the switches and went to the timer system so the light comes on for a few seconds at start-up then goes out regardless of belt position. So, if you have a '66 you could have either system depending on when it was built.
