I think I have cured the problem. I researched on the net and read that brake fluid is good to redo the flexibility of rubber. I suspected the check valve was the problem and put some brake fluid on the check valve where it makes contact on the booster. I have not had the problem again and have driven it several times. In fact I now have better brakes than I did before.
