Lifters, push rods, and compression -- 390
Hello all,
Recently replaced the exhaust manifold gaskets on my '66 390. Had noisy lifters as well, so I decided to replace them. So far so good. Got things back together and it started up ok, but somewhat rough. Went back a couple days later to tune it up but it wouldn't start. Checked compression. Several cylinders were very low while others had no compression. Read an article mentioning new style lifters would result in pushrods being too long. I believe the valves are not seating 100% therby resulting in the lack of compression. I kinda thought the hydraulic float would absorb the difference. Anybody run into this kinda thing, and how did you resolve?
Thanks,
John
