Fuel and Temp gauges on 62

The temp gauge moves only slightly to the rt not qhite to the C at operating temp. and the fuel gauge goes only to half with a full tank . Just got the car so I am sorting it out this winter. I am told that it is possible to have such a problem with a defective constant voltage resistor located behind the clock. Is there any simple way to test the fuel gauge for deflection to eliminate it as a two separate issues. Can one ground the tank and get full deflection if the gauge is in fact OK. The fuel gauge does eventually start down once past 1/2 of the fuel is burned. Possibly the float as a separate issue? Isthere any way to test the temp gauge short of throwing parts at the car.ie temp sending unit in the block, new gauge ect.
Tks,

Dallas
