I got a set of stainless steel ones ( you can get from almost any of the T-Bird suppliers). and ground down the end (Like sharpening a pencil) until the new ones fit where the old ones had rusted off. Worked fine for ten years until I pull the engine and drilled them out properly.
I would not run the engine with out some sort of heat tubes or as Harley suggested an electronic choke.
